It is Project 52 time! This week I have again joined up with other pet photographers from the Beautiful Beasties Network where we collectively challenge ourselves with a weekly assignment. This week we have all been asked to do something we sometimes do by accident and then have to fix – over process an image! So when you follow this week’s blog circle you can expect to see some pet photographers really cutting loose and letting the creativity fly! Mine will get crazier as you go down the page!
I started with Jack in a nice, handsome pose! (This was shot against black seamless paper using two Alien Bee’s – main light to my right, reflector to my left and another strobe as a hair light (fur light?) in a strip box with grid behind Jack and to my left.)
Next up a simple black and white conversion but with detail enhanced (Nik Color Efex Pro 4– Bleach bypass, converted to BW in Lightroom)
My favorite creative processing for pet photos is with Digital Anarchy’s Toon It. I have been using this for a few years and have developed my own presets that don’t look too cartoony, but definitely have an artistic twist!
I love textures on my images when shot on a plain background. This is ‘Dirty Old Man’ (cover your ears Jack) from Light Camera Actions Texture Pack. I masked Jack back in the texture, color and desaturation layers.
Sometimes a dramatic photo just calls for some dramatic processing. This is Topaz Lab’s Dramatic Setting in the Vibrant Collection (with some adjustments).
My vet tells me to watch the treats or Jack could end up looking like this – (Topaz Lab’s Lens Effects – Fisheye).
Years ago I found this great tutorial on Adobe’s website for how to posterize an image. I have prints like this in my house! This tutorial (from 2003- yes I was using Photoshop back then!) was made for much earlier versions of Photoshop, but still works fine. I added finishing touches of beveling and embossing. I can imagine Jack staring just like this at a butterfly!
Finally, I would vote for Jack – would you?? This was done with Obama Poster Maker.
I can only imagine what the other pet photographers have done with this fun theme! Let’s follow the blog circle around the world by clicking on the links at the bottom of the page until you end up back here! First up is Candid K Nines in Windsor Ontario, Canada Have fun!
